« This expedition of the Racehorse and Carcass, undertaken for the purpose of discovering a route to India through the northern polar regions, was blocked by pack ice north of Spitsbergen. The valuable appendix gives geographical and meteorological observations, zoological and botanical records, accounts of the distillation of fresh water from the sea, and astronomical observations. The voyage is perhaps best remembered for the presence of young Horatio Nelson, as midshipman aboard the Carcass, and his encounter with a polar bear” (Hill).

Ce pamphlet est très rare (on ne connaît que 2 exemplaires aux États-Unis). Horsley s’intéresse ici à la manière de calculer une certaine mesure. Phipps ayant donné son accord pour que la pièce soit publiée, montre qu’il s’était rangé à l’avis de son confrère.

Très bon exemplaire, malgré quelques rares feuillets uniformément et légèrement brunis et une petite galerie de ver affectant le stout derniers feuillets.
