Sortie d’usine en 1972, cette SM « carburateurs » fut importée en Suède en 1977 par un habitant de Simrishamn. Elle changea de mains en 1989, puis, c’est en 2016 qu’elle a fait l’objet d’une restauration intégrale d’une qualité rare, par un spécialiste suédois des SM. Ce dernier est en effet parvenu à se procurer une coque nue neuve, ainsi que Citroën les proposait grâce à un stock non-utilisé après l’arrêt de la production. En accord avec les autorités suédoises, l’identité de 00SB5531 fut reportée sur cette nouvelle base. Ne lésinant sur aucun détail, le restaurateur utilisa des éléments de carrosserie neufs de stock d’époque, à l’exception du hayon arrière. La superbe teinte d’origine Vert des Tropiques (AC 525) fut appliquée, tandis qu’un somptueux intérieur en cuir « Tabac » en état d’origine était installé. Le moteur fut intégralement refait, avec pistons forgés haute compression et distribution fiabilisée, la boîte de vitesses fut révisée et les engrenages de différentiel changés. Le système hydraulique, les trains roulants, ou encore la climatisation ont bénéficié des mêmes soins. La liste des pièces remplacées et des travaux figure dans le dossier et témoigne de la qualité de cette remise en état. Son actuel propriétaire, amateur exigeant, en a fait l’acquisition en 2023 et a depuis installé un allumage électronique ainsi qu’un alternateur moderne. Un rétroviseur côté passager a été ajouté pour davantage de sécurité et les carburateurs ont été nettoyés et réglés, en même temps que l’entretien mécanique habituel. Ce superbe exemplaire, dont le compteur était à 0 lors de sa sortie de restauration affiche aujourd’hui 3998 km. Il attirera l’attention des connaisseurs les plus pointilleux.

This carburettor-engined SM left the factory in 1972 and was imported into Sweden in 1977 by a resident of Simrishamn. It changed hands in 1989 and in 2016 underwent a complete restoration to an unusually high standard by a Swedish SM specialist. He succeeded in obtaining a new bare shell, which Citroën offered from stock left over after production came to an end. With the approval of the Swedish authorities, the chassis ID 00SB5531 was transferred to the new bodyshell. The restorer paid attention to every detail, using new old stock body parts, with the exception of the tailgate. The body was painted in the magnificent original colour of ‘Vert des Tropiques’ (AC 525), and a sumptuous interior in tobacco-coloured leather fitted. The engine was completely rebuilt, with high-compression forged pistons and more reliable timing gear; the gearbox was overhauled and the differential gears were replaced. The hydraulic system, running gear and air-conditioning all received the same attention. The list of work undertaken and the parts replaced is present in the history file and attests to the quality of the restoration. The car’s current owner, a demanding enthusiast, bought the car in 2023 and has since fitted electronic ignition and a modern alternator. A passenger door mirror has been added for greater safety, while the carburettors have been cleaned and adjusted, in addition to the usual mechanical service work. This odometer of this superb example was reset to zero when the restoration was completed and is now reading 3998 km. It is sure to attract the attention of the most fastidious connoisseurs.
