Cette Ghia 450 SS se trouve depuis plus de dix ans dans l’importante collection d'un designer automobile et industriel allemand, qui a été séduit par son caractère exclusif et qui possède une vingtaine de voitures maintenues en état de marche par son mécanicien personnel. C'est ce qui permet à ce cabriolet de se présenter aujourd'hui dans un état impeccable avec sa peinture rouge bordeaux rehaussée de chromes très bien préservés et sa capote beige qui s'escamote derrière les sièges sous un carénage spécial, ce qui permet de préserver la pureté de la ligne. L'intérieur de toute beauté comporte des sièges en cuir beige extrêmement originaux en trois parties, une console centrale à garnitures en bois, un volant bois et un tableau de bord très complet.
Avec une mécanique empruntée à la Plymouth Barracuda, dont son puissant V8 de 4,4 L et sa boîte automatique Torqueflite, la Ghia 450 SS a été dévoilée au Salon de Turin 1966 et affichait un dessin spécifique offrant un mélange typiquement italien d'élégance et de sportivité.
La production de ce beau cabriolet, qui venait concurrencer les Ferrari, Maserati ou Aston Martin, s'est limitée à quelque 57 exemplaires, ce qui en fait une pièce d'une grande rareté. Avec une production artisanale, chaque voiture présentait des détails qui la différenciaient des autres. This Ghia 450 SS has been part of the major collection of a German automotive designer and industrialist for over 10 years, who was seduced by its exclusivity as well as owning around twenty cars, all of them serviced by his personal mechanic. Hence why this convertible is able to be presented today in immaculate condition, with its burgundy paintwork enhanced by beautifully preserved chrome and its beige soft top that retracts behind the seats beneath a special fairing (consequently preserving the purity of its design). The stunning interior features highly original three-piece beige leather seats, a central console with wood trim, a wooden steering wheel and a very comprehensive dashboard.
Using mechanical components derived from the Plymouth Barracuda — including its powerful 4.4-litre V8 and Torqueflite automatic transmission — the Ghia 450 SS was unveiled at the 1966 Turin Motor Show and featured a bespoke design offering a typically Italian blend of elegance and sportiness.
