Produite d’octobre 1966 à janvier 1969, la DB6 Volante Mk I a connu une diffusion confidentielle puisque seulement 140 exemplaires furent assemblés. Ainsi que le confirment les registres de la marque, le châssis DBVC/3695/R fût commandé le 17 juillet 1968, puis livré le 22 novembre de la même année à H.W. Motors, brillant team fondé en 1938 et agent Aston Martin depuis 1951 en Angleterre. Le beau cabriolet est sorti des usines de Crewe avec une carrosserie de teinte « Platinium » et sellerie en cuir et capote noire. Elle disposait de la boîte Borg-Warner, de la direction assistée, de roues fils chromées, d’une antenne et de deux ceintures de sécurité au titre des équipements particuliers. C’est en 1985 que cette DB6 fut dédouanée en France, après avoir été importée d’Angleterre. Elle fut achetée aux enchères le 28 avril 1985 par un amateur de la région d’Auxerre, et l’actuel propriétaire a pu s’en porter acquéreur au mois de décembre de la même année. Fin connaisseur, ce dernier a possédé jusqu’à 4 Aston Martin, roulant régulièrement avec chacune d’entre elles. En 2023, il a confié la voiture au spécialiste renommé Olivier de Siebenthal, en Suisse, pour une importante restauration de qualité. La carrosserie a été entièrement restaurée et repeinte, avec un soin particulier apporté à l’alignement des ouvrants ; les soubassements sont dans un état proche du neuf. La belle sellerie en cuir légèrement patinée a été conservée tandis que la capote, les moquettes et les contreportes a été refaite. Le circuit électrique, les trains roulants et la mécanique ont été entièrement remis en état. Le moteur a été passé en 4.2L afin d’en améliorer les performances, et la voiture est équipée d’une boîte manuelle à 5 rapports. Le total des travaux est de l’ordre de 250 000€ et le résultat est superbe. Nous avons été impressionnés par le fonctionnement du brillant 6 cylindres, réglé de manière optimale et apprécié la présence d’un autoradio moderne, d’apparence ancienne. Ayant bénéficié d’une restauration de haut niveau, à la hauteur de son élégance et de sa rareté, cette DB6 Volante expertisée en juillet 2024 est prête à prendre la route et satisfera les collectionneurs les plus exigeants.

Manufactured between October 1966 and January 1969, the DB6 Volante Mk I was produced in a limited series and only 140 examples were built. As stated by the manufacturer’s records, chassis DBVC/3695/R was ordered on the 17th July 1968 and delivered on the 22nd November of the same year to H.W. Motors, a brilliant team founded in 1938 and Aston Martin dealer in England since 1951.

 

This beautiful convertible left the Crewe factory with a bodywork in “Platinum” colour, leather upholstery and a black soft top. It was fitted with a Borg-Warner transmission, power steering, chrome wire wheels, an antenna and two seat belts considered as special equipment. This DB6 was cleared through customs in France in 1985 after being imported from England. It was purchased at auction on the 28th April 1985 by an enthusiast from the Auxerre region and the current owner was able to acquire it in December of that year. As a true enthusiast of the brand, the latter has owned four Aston Martin cars, driving each one regularly.

In 2023, he entrusted the car to the renowned specialist Olivier de Siebenthal in Switzerland for a major high-quality restoration. The bodywork was completely restored and repainted, with particular care around windows alignments; the underflooring is in almost-new condition. The beautiful and slightly patinated leather upholstery was well preserved; while the soft top, carpets and door panels were all redone. The electrical system, running gear and all mechanical components were completely restored. The engine was upgraded to a 4.2L version to improve performance and the car is fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission. The total cost of this restoration work was around €250,000 and the result is stunning.

We were certainly impressed by the performance of the amazing and optimally tuned 6-cylinder engine, as well as the presence of a modern but yet classic-looking car radio. After benefiting from a high-quality restoration worthy of its elegance and rarity, this DB6 Volante was appraised in July 2004 and is now ready to go on the road and satisfy the most demanding collectors.
