“Monaco is strategically important for Artcurial. We are delighted to be able to strengthen our presence there with a new location as well as with ambitious outside artistic projects, such as the Monaco Sculptures trail” said François Tajan, CEO Artcurial SAM.
Artcurial is moving into a new address in the very heart of Monte-Carlo, 4 years after having opened its first permanent office in the Principality.
The new premises, complete with an exhibition gallery and located above the gardens of the Casino, will significantly raise the auction house’s visibility, complementing the two classic auction sessions taking place each January and July and which saw sales totalling more than € 20 M in 2018.
But more than this, it will be a reflection of the Paris headquarters of continental Europe’s leading auction house – a veritable cultural focal point.
“This new exhibition space, open to the public, will enable us to play a much more effective role in the cultural life of Monaco throughout the year. It will offer us the opportunity to present major works coming up for auction, but also to welcome collectors seeking confidential appraisals” added Louise Gréther, Director of Artcurial Monaco.
The Monaco subsidiary will be organising 4 to 5 events per year, presenting the eclecticism of Artcurial’s auctions – from decorative arts to fine art, from antiquity to the 21st century.
In keeping with this objective, the opening of the new location coincides with the announcement of an auction dedicated to 20th century sculpture, to be accompanied by an unprecedented artistic project, developed by Artcurial in partnership with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer.
A preview of an initial series of sculptures, being unveiled specially for the occasion, will eventually be part of the auction entitled Monaco Sculptures, taking place this coming July.
