On Tuesday 30th November, the Urban & Pop Contemporary auction will feature works by leading artists from the urban and contemporary scene. Amongst these exceptional lots, iconic photographs by J.R., an important set by Cléon Peterson as well as editions, sculptures and toys by KAWS will be presented. The auction will also offer for the first time an artwork by artist Xavier Casalta for sale, "old school" drawings by Zephyr and Dondi White and paintings by Richard Hambleton and his famous Shadowman.
The most eagerly awaited lot in this sale is undoubtedly Invader's monumental work, Moon. This unique piece, initially presented at the HOCA Foundation in Hong Kong in 2015 during the Wipe Out exhibition, is estimated at €400,000 to €600,000. It is thus in line with the artist's masterpieces that have been sold under Arnaux Oliveux’s hammer and that have obtained world records at auction. It presents a Space Invader moving on a led panel on the moon, which it has just invaded. By using a medium reminiscent of the urban advertising environment, Invader take a critical look at the omnipresence of illuminated signs that invade our daily and mental landscape.
