Born in 1987 in Figueres in the same city as Salvador Dali, Gerard Vidal studied art history at the Universitat de Barcelona and discovered the world of auctions at the Bonanova Subastas auction house in Barcelona. In 2014, he completed a Master of Medieval Worlds at the Sorbonne and became fascinated by the world of French auctions. He discovered the Artcurial auction house during a sale on the universe of the creator of Tintin organised by the Comics department. In 2017, he opened his own auction house Subhastes Publiques de Barcelona in his native country. In 2018, upon his return to Paris, Gerard Vidal began a collaboration with Artcurial, and more specifically with the Old Masters & 19th Century department.

Today, the collaboration continues with his appointment as the auction house's official representative in Spain.

“We are delighted to welcome Gerard Vidal to strengthen our European teams and extend our network to the Iberian Peninsula.” - Martin Guesnet, Director Artcurial Europe

A passionate collector, Gerard Vidal has a particularly strong taste for classical art, 18th century engravings, art objects from the Louis XIV period and the medieval era.

“It is a dream for me to join the Artcurial team, which, thanks to its expertise and level of excellence in all its fields, is able to offer the best possible service.

Level of excellence in all its fields, has always inspired me. With this new orientation towards Spain, I wish to continue to make the name of Artcurial resound as a reference in auction sales in Europe and in the world.” - Gerard Vidal, Artcurial Spain Representative

His dream? To one day find the giant engraving of twelve plates representing the grand staircase of Versailles decorated by Le Brun, and which recompiles the entire history of Louis XIV.
