In 2019, Artcurial, leading French auction house, confirms its position of major international player in the art market and totals €203.1 m, +4% compared to 2018.
At the beginning of the year, Artcurial Motorcars stood out at Retromobile with an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B Touring Berlinetta from 1939, which soared to €16.7 m. The 20th - 21st century Arts Department recorded an increase of more than 40%, notably thanks to the sale of a Tahitian masterpiece by Paul Gauguin at €9.5 m, the highest price of the year in France for Impressionist & Modern Art. The Fine Arts Department also realised a very successful year, mainly with the Old Master & 19th Century Art department, which doubled its results thanks to a world record for Lucretia by Artemisia Gentileschi at €4.8m.
