One of Artcurial’s major innovations in the art market is the Limited Edition theme sale, unmissable events in the auction calendar since 2014. With an eye to new artistic forms and changes in the market, the auction house is emerging as the leader in a new field of contemporary art - multiple works of art in various forms.
Beginning with the Pop Art movement, limited edition runs were a new way to approach art, its place in the world and its market. Artists were experimenting with new media and pieces were offered at more accessible prices - a way for art lovers and collectors to get onto the bottom rungs of the art market ladder but with access to the top names, like Jeff Koons, Pablo Picasso or Bernar Venet. The success of these sales demonstrates the growing public interest in acquiring modern and contemporary works of art bearing an important signature.
Arnaud Oliveux, in charge of the Urban Art Department, together with Karine Castagna and Alain Weydert (specialising in prints) organise sales dedicated to limited editions of works on paper (lithographs, silk-screen prints, etc.), multiples (sculptures, ceramics, etc.) and artists’ objects.
