Since its opening in 2012, the Brussels Artcurial office has become an essential destination for collectors and Brussels art lovers. Located in a superb mansion on the edge of the Cambre woods, the office is situated in the heart of the magnificent residential area, les Ambassade.

A great number of events dot the activity calendar of the Belgium office such as themed comic book exhibitions or Belgium artists, preliminary presentations of the season’s highlights, offering a panorama of the masterpieces soon to be auctioned and conferences organised in its offices or at the heart of the exhibitions in local regional museums. Artcurial office is a significant participant in charitable events, such as the Luxembourg Red Cross Ball.

From 17th January to 9th February 2022, Artcurial Belgium is honouring the work of Congolese artist Pili Pili Mulongoy. Entitled Pili Pili, a hymn to life, this cultural exhibition, which is open to the public without charge, highlights some fifteen works from a private Belgian collection, which are shown to the public for the first time.

For its second session of the year in the Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, Artcurial achieved a fantastic auction week dedicated to Jewellery, Watches, Hermès & Luxury bags, Motorcars and Monaco Sculptures, with several records and a strong presence of international collectors. With a sales total of €21.5M, the auction house confirmed its leadership position in the Principality.

A bracelet from the Belgian royal family sold in Monaco

This exceptional acrostic bracelet, which most probably belonged to Queen Louise-Marie of Belgium, was sold in a bidding war for over €70,000 in July 2021 in Monaco. Made of 18k yellow gold, the bracelet held eight finely chiselled souvenir medallions set with fine stones to compose the first names of members of the family of the first King of the Belgians. On opening, the medallion reveals a miniature eye in the style of the painter Winterhalter. This gold bracelet was part of a set of six jewels from a European princely collection.

Artcurial beats the world record for an original comic book board with The Blue Lotus by Hergé! On Thursday 14th January, Artcurial offered this exceptional work at auction, never seen before on the market: the project by Hergé for the cover of the original edition of The Blue Lotus, a 1936 album of Tintin. The work was sold for €3.2 M, also becoming Hergé’s new world record.

The Penitent Magdalene by Salaì reaches €1.7M

On Wednesday 18th November, an important discovery in the history of art came under the hammer of Matthieu Fournier: the Penitent Magdelene by Leonardo da Vinci’s closest collaborator, Gian Giacomo Caprotti, better known as Salaì. Identified by art historians, this oil on panel, one of very few works attributed to Salaì, is imbued with an intimate understanding of Leonardo’s technique. This coveted masterpiece sold for €1.7M, a new world record for the artist.

Le mercredi 8 juillet, Artcurial consacrait une soirée à ses grandes ventes d’Art Moderne et Contemporain. A cette occasion, la maison présentait un stabile monumental d’Alexander Calder, haut de plus de 3,5 mètres. Cette sculpture impressionnante crée l’événement en s’envolant à près de 5 M€ / 5,6 M$ frais inclus, le double de son estimation. Il s’agit d’un record en Europe pour un stabile de l’artiste vendu aux enchères.
