To mark the sale of sixty works from the Peter Los Collection of Contemporary Aboriginal Art, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi will be painting at the Hôtel Dassault on July 4, 5, and 6.

Her presence in Paris marks a desire to share her work and spread knowledge of contemporary Aboriginal art, now admired in every corner of the globe…

Her visit is a tribute, and sign of friendship, to Peter Los who, for over 20 years, has devoted his life to the recognition of contemporary Aboriginal painting, and was close to her father, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri (c.1932-2002), a major pioneering figure of Aboriginal art.

Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi was born in 1967 in the Papunya Community where the first Aboriginal works in acrylic on canvas were produced in the early 1970s. Her first works were painted at the start of the 1980s alongside her father, and she swiftly emerged as one of the most important artists of her generation.

Her dreams have crossed frontiers. Her works have been exhibited throughout Australia, in the United States (New York and Washington), and in Europe (London, Rome, Switzerland, France) — and can be found in museum collections in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin, Adelaide) and in numerous private collections around the world.

Her paintings represent the encounter between an age-old heritage and the 21st century, and have fully found their place on the international contemporary art scene.

Now, after New York, Rome and London, it's another long-haul flight for Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi as she jets in to Paris from Melbourne, where she has lived since 1990!

She will be setting up her studio for three days in the Hôtel Dassault on the Champs-Elysées, giving free rein to her imagination for what promises to be a fantastic opportunity to get to know the beauty of Aboriginal art.

The finished work will be offered for auction on July 7 along with other canvases by Gabriella in the Peter Los Collection, including Seven Sisters Dreaming (2008) — a major, large-format work in acrylic on canvas, 2.97 x 4.98m (estimate €10,800-18,000).
