September 2007 saw a new stage in Artcurial’s development, with the launch of Artcurial China (Shanghai) in association with Bruno Wu, founder of Sun Media (one of China’s leading private media groups), and his wife Yang Lan.
Now Francis Briest, Vice-Chairman of Artcurial, is delighted to announce that Artcurial China’s inaugural sale will take place in Shanghai on January 20, “featuring 72 lots of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art, with an overall estimate of RMB 40-54m (€3.8-4.7m).”
The auction is dominated by traditional and figurative painting from continental China, led by an outstanding self-portrait by Chen Yifei (1946-2005), The Artist with Beauties, oil on canvas 5ft 5in x 9ft 6in (1.65 x 1.90m), painted in 1999 (estimate on request). The international market will be represented by works by Zao Wou Ki, Chu Teh Chun, Richard Texier and Li Shan.
