From precious stones to la haute joaillerie, via 19th century and designer jewelry
Since it’s creation in 2003, at the initiative of Francois Tajan, the Jewellery department organises, once a year, a mid-season jewellery auction and two prestige auctions, one in July in Monte-Carlo at the same time as the Bal de la Croix rouge and the other one January in Monaco concurrently with the Fine Watches and Hermes Vintage auctions.
For more than 10 years, Julie Valade, Head of the Jewellery department, has brought her talent to her team, by offering her quality expertise and her valuations in keeping with the market.
Their knowledge, their professionalism and unfailing judgement, have earned them the trust of collectors, dealers and cultural institutions, who solicit their advice and opinions.
These spectacular auctions have become a “place to be” for collectors and amateurs throughout the world.
Undoubtedly, Artcurial’s strategy of bringing the most exceptional pieces to the Principality is a dream come true for vendors and buyers. Year after year, this rendez-vous helps to affirm its leadership in France and in Monaco, in the field of exceptional jewellery. A truly selective auction is a key to its success.
Un hiver précieux sur le rocher
After studying at the Ecole du Louvre and earning a Master of Law degree, Julie Valade started working at the étude Tajan. As early as 1996, she began to focus on jewellery and took over the department there while starting a course at the Institut National de Gemmologie in Paris. After a short stint with the experts Baille Beauvois, François Tajan called upon her to create the Jewellery department at Artcurial. The first auction in December 2005 met all his expectations. Julie Valade appreciates the historic and aesthetic dimension of jewels, as well as their sentimental aspect, always present in her never-ending discoveries.
Expert since 1982 at the Cour d’Appel de Paris, member of the Syndicat National des Experts Français, expert for the salons d’expositions de Bruxelles, for the Salon des Collectionneurs and that of the Tuileries. He has organized many auctions in France, Monaco, Geneva, Tokyo and New York, and valued masterpieces for museums, such as the emerald necklace of the Empress Marie-Louise, shown in the Galerie d’Apollon, and the Via Vitae created by Joseph Chaumet.
Specialising in 19th and 20th century jewels, in precious and semi-precious stones, and also in natural pearls, he also works with many foreign clients, both professional and individual.
